Grief First Aid Training
Grief First Aid is a one-day, accredited course that teaches adults how to recognise, understand, and respond with empathy to someone experiencing grief and loss. It covers grief in all its forms, not just bereavement, but also things like redundancy, relationship breakdown, and chronic illness, and gives participants a practical framework, the GRIEF Action Plan, for supporting others and knowing when to refer them on. Participants finish with a short assessment and accreditation as a Grief First Aider, valid for three years.
Grief touches every workplace. Not just bereavement, but redundancy, relationship breakdown, chronic illness diagnoses, miscarriage, caring for an ageing parent, the loss of a pet, and even the grief of change itself. Most organisations have no framework for any of it.
Grief First Aid changes that. It's a one-day, accredited course that teaches adults how to recognise, understand, and respond with empathy to someone experiencing grief and loss, and to know when and how to point them toward further support.
Why This Matters for Your Workplace
Grief is not a mental health condition, but unsupported grief is a genuine psychosocial risk. It shows up as disengagement, presenteeism, absenteeism, conflict, and eventually turnover. When people feel unseen in their loss, they leave quietly, and often for reasons no exit interview will capture.
Grief First Aid is a preventative, workplace-first approach that sits alongside your existing wellbeing supports, such as your EAP, rather than replacing them. It builds a culture where grief can be spoken about, where colleagues know how to respond, and where people feel able to stay, and to stay well, through hard seasons of life.
Who Should Attend
Anyone over 18 who wants to build the confidence and skills to support someone through grief and loss, at work and beyond. It's a natural next step for MHFAiders, people leaders, HR and wellbeing teams, and anyone in a support or care role.
